Wallace Christensen EEO Exhibit OUTREACH ACTIVITIES DURING THE LAST YEAR: December 1, 2008 to November 30, 2009
1. Internship Program: provides high school or college students with training by station staff and management. Training includes announcing and production.
Aubrey Pals and Britany Christensen, both students at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD have been working towards their degrees in communications and business and are in our internship program.
2. Recruitment in conjunction with job fairs and "The Staffing Specialists" a job placement service in Marshall, MN. A broad-based hiring service whose goal is to bring job seeker and employer together.
This placement service provides a venue at their location and at 4 job fairs held during the year to provide potential employees with information about our business and possible job openings in announcing and sales.
3. On the Job Training: provides staff meetings for current employees designed to give them additional skills. Topics covered were: January "voice tracking", May "producing creative impressions", September " role playing sales presentations". These are held for all staff and sometimes on a one-on-one basis when help is needed.
4. Mentoring/Shadowing Program: in cooperation with the high school, provides high school students a close up working relationship with staff members, giving them information about and encouraging them to consider a career in broadcasting.
We currently have elementary, middle school, and high school students do weekly on-air work in conjunction with announcing school news, 4-H activities and other student related activities. We are also involved in the Pipestone High School Shadow program where students interested in careers in broadcasting are invited to participate on the air, shadowing one of the announcers for a day.
5. Internet Program: positions will be posted on our Internet web site, the Minnesota Broadcasters Association Job bank website, the EEO 1 website, and careerpage.org
6. On air announcements: letting people or organizations know how to contact us in the event they want to be notified of any job openings we might have during the year
7. Station Tours: given to interested civic and school groups where on air personalities and management inform about their jobs and broadcasting careers.
During "American Education Week" in November we had students from area schools tour the radio stations giving them the opportunity to see how the radio stations operate. We have also had area 4-H groups tour the radio stations during "National 4-H Week " in October. During "Career Day" at Minnesota West Technical College in Pipestone, our announcers speak to students about various careers in broadcasting.
